Bio
Austin Carty was a contestant on the 12th instalment of the Survivor reality television series, entitled Survivor: Panama - Exile Island.
He was first a member of the "younger men" tribe, Viveros, before joining the La Mina tribe. He made it to the merged Gitanos tribe but wasn't trusted by the former Casaya tribe members who were in the majority, and was seen as a challenge threat.
Danielle and Bruce decided to remain loyal to their original alliance, and voted off Austin, making him the first member of the jury.
Carty was born and raised in High Point, North Carolina.
He studied three years at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, where he played Division One soccer while studying speech communications and public speaking.
Carty is currently an established author (he is signed with a literary agent based in New York City).
In 2003, his first novel, Somewhere Beyond Here, was published. His agent is currently shopping his two subsequent novels, Storm of Fireflies and Grays' Sacrifice.
He supplements his income with modeling for print and commercial advertising. He has previously worked in retail, as a waiter and as a bartender.
Prior to his appearance on Survivor, Carty played the role of Young Dan in two episode of the television drama series One Tree Hill, in 2003 and again in 2005.
Carty enjoys writing, reading, playing guitar and piano. His favourite sport is soccer.
