The Event is an American science fiction conspiracy thriller television series created by Nick Wauters which follows Sean Walker, a man who, while investigating the mysterious disappearance of his girlfriend, ends up unraveling the biggest cover-up in U.S. history.
The series premiered in the USA on NBC on 20 September, 2010.
The Event premiered in South Africa on M-Net on Wednesday 29 September 2010, at 21h30. New episodes broadcast weekly. The show went on hiatus after the 10th episode (which aired on 1 December, 2010) to accommodate a similar hiatus in the USA.
The Event resumed on M-Net on Wednesday 16 March, 2011. New episodes broadcast weekly. There are 22 episodes in the first season.

Synopsis
The Event is an emotional, high-octane conspiracy thriller that follows Sean Walker (Jason Ritter), an everyman who investigates the mysterious disappearance of his would-be fiancée Leila (Sarah Roemer) and unwittingly begins to expose the biggest cover-up in U.S. history.
Sean's quest will send ripples through the lives of an eclectic band of strangers, including newly elected U.S. President Elias Martinez (Blair Underwood); Sophia Maguire (Laura Innes), who is the leader of a mysterious group of detainees; and Leila's shadowy father (Scott Patterson).
Their futures are on a collision course in a global conspiracy that could ultimately change the fate of mankind.
Ian Anthony Dale, Clifton Collins, Jr., Taylor Cole, Lisa Vidal, Bill Smitrovich and eljko Ivanek also star in the ensemble drama.
