About the Show

Live to Dance is an American reality dance competition television series based on the British series Got to Dance and produced by Princess Productions, Reveille Productions and Shine TV in which a wide variety of acts compete before a panel of judges, with viewers getting to vote during the semifinals and finals.

The series aired in the USA on CBS from 4 January to 9 February, 2011. There are seven hour-long episodes in one season.

Live to Dance premiered in South Africa on DStv's Mzansi Magic channel on Friday 6 April 2012, at 19h30. New episodes broadcast weekly.

Synopsis

Dancers who wanted the opportunity to showcase their talents were encouraged to attend the open calls and show why they deserved to be a contestant on Live to Dance.

The most talented and entertaining dancers received a callback to audition for Paula Abdul and the panel of experts, all world-class dancers themselves.

In one of the most inclusive talent searches on television, dancers with raw ability, in any age group from across America (either performing solo or in a group) could audition in any form of dancing - ballet to break dance, tap to tango, or something never seen before with their own unique fusion of styles - rock ballet, hip-hop clogging or contemporary mixed with capoeira.

The most talented dancers who made it through the callback process had the chance to perform live on CBS in the semi-finals and finals, where they battled for the right to be crowned Live to Dance champion and be awarded a $500,000 prize.

Paula Abdul, the award-winning dancer/choreographer, dynamic performer, multi-platinum recording artist and popular entertainment personality, was executive producer, creative partner and lead expert for Live to Dance.

Abdul also served as coach, mentor and advocate for contestants during the performances and elimination process, providing critical input and guidance, while sharing her experience with hopeful contestants.

Executive producer, lead expert and mentor Paula Abdul was joined by host Andrew Günsberg and fellow experts, choreographer Travis Payne and singer/dancer Kimberly Wyatt.

Live to Dance is based on a format created by Princess Productions and Shine TV and is produced by Reveille. Elisabeth Murdoch, Howard T. Owens, James Sunderland, Robin Ashbrook, Anthony Dominici and Paula Abdul are executive producers.
