12 Monkeys is an American science fiction mystery drama television series developed by Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett and based on the 1995 film of the same name, which explores the provocative story of a time traveler from a dystopian future in a high-stakes race against the clock.
Utilizing a dangerous and untested method of time travel, he journeys from 2043 to the present day and the past on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will all but annihilate the human race.
The series explores the themes of fate, destiny, love and the possibility of second chances.
12 Monkeys stars Aaron Stanford as time traveler Cole, Amanda Schull as Dr. Cassandra Railly, a brilliant virologist, Kirk Acevedo as Cole's best friend Ramse and Noah Bean as Cassandra's ex-lover and political insider Aaron Marker.
Additional key recurring roles include Barbara Sukowa as Jones, the operator of the time machine in 2015; Tom Noonan as mysterious villain The Pallid Man, the sinister face of the Army of the 12 Monkeys; and Emily Hampshire as mental patient Jennifer Goines, a dangerous, unstable mental patient who might have the key to unraveling the mystery of the 12 Monkeys locked away in her head.
The series is produced by Universal Cable Productions in association with Atlas Entertainment, producer of the original theatrical film.
