Vula Vala is a South African television drama series which follows the fortunes of a young soccer player whose arrival at a family-owned club unlocks an old secret the owners thought was buried, bringing on an emotional rollercoaster ride where family meets football, business, crime and betrayal.
Sello Maake ka-Ncube stars as Bra Rex, a retired soccer player-turned club owner.
He is a ruthless businessman whose past life catches up with him as he tries to revive The Warriors, his struggling soccer outfit, in Kwa Thema Ekurhuleni.
A young man in his 20s, Mzi, leaves Ladysmith to work for his uncle and to find a better life in Johannesburg.
The plot takes a twist after Mzi, an aspiring soccer player, finds himself playing for The Warriors, and an old secret is revealed to everyone's dismay.
The series goes behind the scenes of this family-owned football club, where the pursuit for happiness leads to old wounds being opened.
Tina Jaxa stars as Thembi, Bra Rex's wife, who is hellbent on keeping her family together; and Darlington Michaels is Gab, a township thug who gets entangled in their business affairs.
Also starring in the series is Khanyisani Kheswa as Mzi, Patricia Khumalo as Dudu, Mthandeni Mvelase as Bra Percy and Luckyboy Mtshali as Kop.
Additional cast members include Sikelelwa Vuyeleni as Owami, Sandile Dlamini as Tinyiko, Lebogang Phake as Dipuo, Sthandile Nkosi as Teaspoon, Zola Msizi as Lefa and Kagiso Modupe as Menzi.
Vula Vala is an M-Net Original Production, produced for Mzansi Magic by by Black Brain Pictures. The working title of the show was "The Score".
The show was created by Mandla N and Mpumi Nhlapo (who are also the head writers) and is executive produced by Mpumi Nhlapo, Mandla N and Annelie van Rooyen. The producer is Zikona Anam Debese.
