Hush Money is a South African drama miniseries which revolves around the cover-up of the death of a young medical student after she is killed by a drunken driver with powerful friends.
The series deals with the subject of inequality and the use of power, seen playing out between the rich and powerful Dukashe family and the impoverished Buthelezis.
Nandi Buthelezi has a promising future as a medical doctor but her life is cut short when she is killed in a hit and run accident by a drunken driver, law graduate Mayihlome Dukashe.
To save him from a heavy prison sentence, his influential father - Judge Kadefuna Dukashe - bribes Nandi's poor family to turn a blind eye.
The series stars Dumisani Mbebe as Judge Kadefuna Dukashe, Vuyelwa Booi as Grace Dukashe, Mpho Sebeng as Mayihlome Dukashe, Thulani Mtsweni as Malusi Buthelezi, Mbali Maphumulo as Cebile Buthelezi, Mandisa Vilakazi as Nandipha Buthelezi, Kea Leburu as Sindiswa Nxumalo and Thandeka Nodada as Detective Zikhona.
In the series premiere: Mayihlome Dukashe and Nandi Buthelezi graduate and their families celebrate their wins in different ways.
Later that night Mayihlome throws a party, inviting all of his friends. Sindi, Nandi's best friend, invites Nandi as her plus one.
At the party, Mayihlome and Sindi get drunk, resulting in a hit and run accident that claims Nandi's life.
