Season 1
Hosted and produced by supermodel Tyra Banks, America's Next Top Model pits sexy contestants against each other in a competition to win a modelling contract and various other prizes.
The contestants are coached in all aspects of modelling by stylist Jay Manuel, in a crash course boot camp which sees one after the other eliminated until only one is left standing - the next top American model.
Participants are asked to demonstrate both inner and outer beauty as they master complicated catwalks, intense physical fitness, fashion photo shoots and publicity skills, all under 24-hour-a-day surveillance.
Banks leads the panel of America's Next Top Model judges, comprising leading fashion industry experts that include former supermodel Janice Dickinson (who calls herself "the first supermodel") and Marie Claire fashion editor Beau Quillian, who conduct regular evaluations to narrow the field from week to week.
