Season 1
With 102 microphones, 62 cameras, over a dozen new housemates and 24/7 coverage on DStv channels 197 and 198, Big Brother Mzansi exploded onto screens with larger than life characters, a R1-million prize and all the drama and emotion the show is known for.
They're all South African. They're all outspoken. They will live together in a specially constructed house, completely isolated from the outside world, watched 24/7 by viewing audiences across the country. They are ready for action. Are you?
Each week housemates nominate each other for eviction. The housemates who get the most nominations have to survive a viewer vote. If they don't, they're evicted out of the game instantly. Only the last person remaining at the end taked home the mega jackpot of R1-million.
Along the way Big Brother, that infamous and legendary character at the centre of it all, introduces his own twists and turns into the game.
Given that this is a 100% South African version of Big Brother, and South Africa has 11 official languages, housemates can speak in any of these languages although Big Brother himself primarily communicates in English and English sub-titles appear on the daily shows on the Mzansi Magic channel.
Joining host Lungile Radu on the awesome new Big Brother stage for the two-hour, live season premiere, audiences saw Reason, Uhuru, The Arrows and DJ Ganyani featuring Si-Anne. Also in the spotlight during Sunday's launch were dancers Soweto's Finest and Thembisa Revolution.
