Season 1

The Mayor is a South African television comedy series created by Kagiso Lediga and set in Johannesburg about a bombastic, flamboyant mayor has to keep a growing polygamous family together while trying to contend with running Africa's richest and largest metropolis, Johannesburg.

With the help of his longtime confidante and spokesperson Mercia (Thuli Thabethe), as well as the newly appointed fish-out-of-water Chief of Staff Martin Shai (Rea Rangaka), OJ has to ensure that he makes it to a third term despite certain elements that don't want him to be mayor - like his City Manager, Lucinda le Roux (Fiona Ramsay).

The Mayor's ambitious plans for the city are an attempt to cement his legacy, but cause conflict in the office and could lead to an abrupt end to OJ's power. Imagine a city where the mayor sells off the zoo to the highest bidder and the public are allowed one visit per year - expect the unexpected from The Mayor.

Through all of this, OJ still has to juggle having two wives in the same house and must find a way to make time for his growing eight-year-old son's ballet recitals.

The Mayor: Orpheus Japie "OJ" Mabunda (Lucky Legodi)
Spokesperson: Mercia Sithole (Thuli Thabethe)
Chief of Staff: Martin Shai (Rea Rangaka)
First wife: Ntombi Mabunda (Vicky Kente)
Second wife: Barbara Mabunda (Bianca Le Grange)
City Manager: Lucinda le Roux (Fiona Ramsay)
Mayor's eldest son: Boy-Boy (Ntosh Madlingozi)

The Mayor was created, directed and executive produced by Kagiso Lediga for Gunga7 (formerly Diprente). Karabo Lediga is also a director and other executive producers include John Volmink, Isaac Mogajane and Luke Henkeman. Tamsin Andersson is also a producer. The music composer was Mpho Polo and the writer was Karabo Lediga.
