Season 14
Every body tells a story: who they were, how they lived, and most importantly, how they died. Their history is there to be discovered and the body is the key to unlocking the story.
Each season the forensic pathology drama Silent Witness features a new batch of crimes for the team of pathologists to crack.
The show follows the fortunes of the pathologists as they are called on by police to help identify murder victims that have been too badly burned or decomposed to use standard identification methods.
The team consists of Professor Leo Dalton (William Gaminara), a no-nonsense leader with years of experience in pathology; Dr. Harry Cunningham (Tom Ward), an incisive and logical scientist with a dry sense of humour; and Dr. Nikki Alexander (Emilia Fox), an idealistic expert in palaeontology who wears her heart on her sleeve.
Together, they combine their knowledge and abilities to solve complex crimes, using the latest forensic techniques in order to bring murderers and other violent criminals to justice.
In this season, Nikki becomes increasingly disturbed after carrying out the post mortem of a young girl – the victim of a killer called Jason Bodle (Michael Shaeffer).
Following several suspicious hospital deaths, Bodle's guilt-ridden doctor, Nigel Silverlake (Roy Marsden), is shot dead by police during an apparent suicide bid, and the team is drawn into a complex investigation.
While on secondment, Nikki and archaeologist Patrick Cain (Mark Benton) are asked to investigate a mysterious, ancient body that has been unearthed from a peat moor.
Back at the Lyell Centre, Leo discovers that the body is less ancient than they thought and may be linked to a spate of ritualistic killings of young women in the mid-1980s. Now the killing has started again.
The team also investigate two suspicious suicides; a young woman, pulled from a river near an army base, and a soldier shot in the face during training.
As the police investigation builds, the team starts to wonder if these two deaths are linked and whether the army base is trying to hide a dark secret.
Elsewhere, Nikki and Harry are called out to an ongoing siege at the Dutch Embassy. Many of the ambassador's family have been shot dead and his grandson, Jack (Austin Moulton), has been kidnapped.
But when counter-terrorism chief DS Mansfield (Lorcan Cranitch) shows up and dismisses the UK pathologists, it's clear he's trying to hide something from the investigating team.
