Season 2
The second season - entitled Survivor South Africa: Malaysia - was filmed in Malaysia from mid-May to the end of June, 2007. It aired on M-Net from 22 August to 14 November, 2007 and was won by Lorette Mostert.
A number of changes were made to the show for the second season, including:
- Number of contestants increased from 14 to 16
- Number of days increased from 29 to 39
- Broadcast time changed from Sundays at 18h00 to Wednesdays at 20h00.
- Pre-show vote by South African citizens to choose the 16th contestant
A variety of media partners invited their readers to apply for a place among the 16 contestants and readers of those publications voted for their favourite among those entries.
The finalists were placed on M-Net's website and between 23-30 April public voting decided the 16th contestant.
Two-thirds of the entries were from males. The percentage of applicants in the 40-59 age group was also higher than 2006 and the oldest contestants (20 of them) were 77 years old.
Unlike the first season, which Open Time viewers could watch, the second season could only be watched by subscribers to either DStv or M-net, as a result of the closure of Open Time earlier in 2007. The first season regularly drew more than a million viewers per episode.
First season host Mark Bayly returned to host the second season.
