Season 5
Reba was an American sitcom created by Allison M. Gibson in which country superstar Reba McEntire made her first foray into series television in a comedy that takes aim at the all-American family with a spirited look at suburban dysfunction.
It premiered on The WB Television Network (The WB) network in 2001, where it ran for five seasons before moving to The CW Television Network for its final season.
Reba aired in South Africa on M-Net. Season 5 premiered on 23 June, 2007.
Synopsis
The series began with the Hart family in the midst of a divorce as Texas soccer mom Reba watched her white-picket-fenced world collapse before her very eyes.
Her dentist husband, Brock, left her after what she thought were 20 happy years of marriage for his impossibly perky and unfortunately pregnant dental hygienist, Barbra Jean.
Reba's strength was tested yet again with the pregnancy of her then-17-year-old daughter Cheyenne and her decision to marry her boyfriend, high school football star, Van.
All this upheaval made for a rocky transition period for second daughter Kyra, who moved in with Brock and Barbra Jean.
Season 5 Synopsis
Kyra continues to pursue her music career with the band she joined last season. The increasing success of the band leads to Kyra neglecting her schoolwork.
Reba wants to support Kyra's dreams of a music career, but not at the expense of her education. The crisis escalates as Kyra, with support from Brock, decides to quit school and focus on the band.
Reba also has to confront the problems of her youngest, Jake, moving into adolescence. Reba must adjust to the fact that her last child is growing up and leaving childhood behind him.
Still dealing with her recovery from alcoholism, Cheyenne will look for easy solutions and find new addictions. Reba will do her best to keep Cheyenne on the path of recovery. Cheyenne's husband, Van, proved himself a natural as Reba's assistant in her real estate office.
This season, Van will become a real estate agent himself and Reba's partner. The problems they encounter at the office will carry over to their home life, upsetting the balance of their daily life.
Reba still finds herself in the middle of Brock and Barbra Jean's marriage. Despite her best efforts to keep them at arm's length, Brock and Barbra Jean manage to involve Reba in the ongoing troubles of their marriage.
Through all the changes and challenges - not to mention the family members moving back and forth between households - this blended family will continue to muddle through with humour, love and optimism as they have always done.
