Between Ayanda's Big Snooze and now, she's changed things up. In September last year she left eNCA to join SABC2's Morning Live.
When I heard that she's on Morning Live I realised that I know too little about her.
Not a good state of affairs when someone blows your hair back so I decided to get in touch with her to get to know her.
Today I present you with the result'iozo ... 10 Things that I've discovered about her that you may not know:
1. Ayanda left eNCA for Morning Live because she feels that SABC2 gives her a wider platform for the work she wants to do beyond TV. She's currently doing a degree in Community Development so she wants to reach as wide an audience as possible.
Ayanda: "I want to do a lot of work with communities that don't have access to DStv. In order to be established on that front I thought that SABC would the best for that.
"There was no animosity, nothing malicious, it was just a move I wanted to make because I wanted to appeal to a more free-to-air demographic. People who watch terrestrial TV as opposed to the DStv platform. I'm keen to work with young people and NGO's so it helps to a build a profile so they know who you are."
2. She started her career with a degree in Communications Science - which involves all areas of broadcasting - and then realised that she wants to make a positive impact on the news she reports.
Ayanda: "It's very difficult for any anchor to just sit there and not do anything about the problems you see. As you get into it, you realise, hang on, I'm not just here for the glitz and glamour and the celebrity, there's another mandate that appeals to you.
With Morning Live I get to go out, get to meet new people, I'm not studio bound. The more I do that the more I realise that I need to actually make a difference. 'What's my contribution?' I've been asking myself - especially with the passing of Madiba."
3. She gets up at 03h30, her call time's 05h00. She tries to get to the SABC between 04h30 and 04h45 to prepare and make sure that everything's okay.
Ayanda's youngest and her husband Matthew.
4. What's with her name?! Ayanda-Allie's maiden name was Allie and when her and her hubby Matthew got married (in 2006) she wanted to keep her maiden name with her.
Her and Matthew discussed it and weren't keen on their children having a double-barrel surname so Ayanda decided to make her first name double-barrel instead.
5. Ayanda describes herself as "very, very,
very musical." She loves writing music, analysing the genres, exploring why things work together. If she wasn't doing what she currently does, she'd want to be a songwriter.
Matthew plays guitar and together they ran a studio that did jingles for commercials. They don't do it anymore though - Matthew currently specialises in office management and bookkeeping.
6. They have three children. The first is Ayanda's nephew who's eight, her first-born is three and her baby's a year old. She's waiting for the day when all of them treat her like a queen.
7. She wears contact lenses when she's on air. She sees her glasses as a good disguise.
Ayanda: "When I put on my glasses nobody knows who on earth I am so when I'm having one of those tracksuit days and I don't want people to see me, I put on my glasses and go to the mall."
Sorry Ayanda, not possible now that we've seen you in them!
Ayanda's besties.
8. She loves talking. She sees it as both a strength and a weakness. She also loves talking with her closest friends. Their sessions can last six hours and they talk about everything.
9. When it comes to movies she prefers dramas, rom-coms and true stories. Her fave TV series are House, The Mentalist, Come Dine with Me and NCIS.
Ayanda: "Not the Los Angeles NCIS. Even if it has LL Cool J, I don't like the Los Angeles one."
Her fave movie of all time: In Pursuit of Happiness.
She loves reading autobiographies. She's just finished reading A Passion for Freedom by Mamphela Ramphele.
Ayanda: "It was very interesting to see her explain what the media was reporting on at the time. It's great to hear from the person them self, what they were going through. There's always another side, a different aspect that we perhaps neglect, not knowingly. It's definitely something I enjoy looking at."
10. Her life motto changes per season or according to time, depending on the circumstances. Right now she's inspired by Madiba's quote about there being no glory in playing small.
Ayanda: "For me the theme for 2014, what I'm telling myself is to live deliberately and not to be passive. There are times when you just go through the motions, you wake up because you have to wake up, you go to work because you have to go to work, you do this and you do that and you get lost in that. My motto at the moment is to live life on purpose. Everything that I do, I'm conscious of it, I'm present in this moment."
