Izoso Connexion is a South African television sitcom created by Johnny Barbuzano and Tumisho Masha, produced by Mindpool Productions and centred around a dating agency operating from the heart of a take-away shop called Amigos in Eloff Street, Johannesburg.
It's more difficult these days to attract the lunchtime crowd with the emergent chain stores selling cardboard meals to the unsuspecting public. Business is slow and morale is low ... something needs to be done to turn the fortunes of the once prosperous Amigos.
The series uncovers how a simple take-away undergoes a makeover to become a thriving dating agency and a hotspot for the all weird and wonderful characters of Eloff street to get together.
Twala is a man with aspirations to be more than he already is. His "special tea" is legendary in Eloff Street, but good tea is hardly the answer to success and fortune.
Joao is the owner of Amigos by inheritance. He longs for Madeira but loves his real home: South Africa. He relies heavily on those around him for guidance and understanding, but ignorance could be his downfall.
Joao's sister Gabriella is in the throes of planning the wedding of the year. She has to keep her brother in check and gossip and joke with Millicent all the while remembering to book the wedding band, despite the fact that there are no guarantees that the wedding will actually go ahead.
Millicent has attitude, savvy, beauty and fun all rolled into one. She is looking for the love of her life, not realising that he might actually be right in front of her.
Maria is all heart and understanding. She is the person people go to when they need some love and encouragement.
The first season of Izoso Connexion features a number of well-known actors in cameo roles, including: Bill Flynn; Top Billing presenter Tumisho Masha; Isidingo stars Emmanuel Castis and Karin van der Laag; Ian Roberts and Mothusi Magano from The Lab. Rapulana Sepheimo from Generations is also in the mix – starring as himself.
SABC1 describes the show as "a character driven story of love and hope, filled with a sprinkling of magic realism."
Both Tumi Morake and Tiffany Barbuzano are also part of the writing team, which is headed up by Julie Barker. The series producer was Lizelle Slabber and the executive producer was Monique Garden.
The original creative concept is the brainchild of Johnny Barbuzano; the director and one of the writers on the show; and Tumisho Masha; also one of the writers and a trainee producer on the show.
The show was made by Mindpool Productions.
