Fluiters (Whistleblowers) is a South African conspiracy thriller television series created by Deon Opperman which begins when a successful IT company gets sunk by a corrupt government official and hits back by creating a SecureDrop-style website where whistleblowers can leak evidence on corruption without fear of being exposed.
Everything goes smoothly and according to plan until they receive a document from someone who uses the pseudonym "LEKMAN".
In this document they get the first sign of a conspiracy at the highest levels between two corrupt agents of the South African State Security Agency (SSA), politicians and agents of ISIS - a conspiracy with the aim of enriching uranium in South Africa until it is weapons-grade ready for export to the Middle East.
To achieve this goal an Afrikaner scientist is brought in to guide the project. Years before he was a member of a team of scientists who worked in cooperation with Israel's Mossad for the Apartheid government's nuclear weapons program - and he knows where the centrifuges still lie hidden, deep in a basement below the ground.
However, neither the corrupt SSA agents nor the other antagonists know that this scientist has plans of his own for the enriched uranium... And so the group of heroes are drawn into an international conspiracy, which takes place right here at home.
Friendship, loyalty, relationships and endurance are tested to the limit as the noose draws them ever closer into the unknown shadowy world of espionage, political and corporate corruption, assassinations, international terrorism and the dark world of the deep web.
The cast includes many familiar names and seasoned actors including Marius Weyers, Sandra Prinsloo, Jacques Bessenger, Marisa Drummond, Neels van Jaarsveld, Kim Syster, Fezile Mpela and Wayne van Rooyen.
