Identity is a South African television drama series which revolves around a decorated police officer whose fortunes take a turn for the worse when he inadvertently becomes the most wanted criminal in South Africa.
The story weaves between two worlds: one of the biggest townships in South Africa, Umlazi; and the concrete jungle, Jozi Maboneng.
At the centre of the story is Melusi Sikhakhane (Bongile Mantsai), a celebrated police officer whose life takes a drastic detour when tragedy strikes, resulting in him becoming the most wanted criminal in the land.
Linked to him are the women in his life: his loving wife of 20 years, Gugulethu Mboma (Ayanda Bandla); and his ambitious side chick Phumzile (Asanda Hanabe).
As Melusi's life is turned upside down and he finds himself in the underground world, we meet Panyaza, a ruthless businessman who will stop at nothing to grow his wealth to get what he wants.
He belongs to an international syndicate that has its eyes on taking over cities in South Africa - and they have prioritised Johannesburg as their first project.
Zizi Peteni plays Melusi's best friend, who has been with him through everything. After Melusi is presumed dead, he pursues Gugulethu.
Will Melusi regain his memory to find out who he is, in time before he does too much damage?
