Season 8
This much loved institution is the dynamic backdrop for the continuing activities of two stokvels in Diepkloof, Soweto. Stokvels have been a part of African culture for decades - a place where friends meet for companionship, good times and a social way of saving money.
Since its first broadcast in 2003, Stokvel has scored high ratings in its time slot and continues to attract a large audience to the ongoing adventures of the young professional couple, Mojo Khumalo and his beautiful wife, Lerata, and their respective stokvels.
Mojo is the chairman of the men's stokvel, Majakathata, and Lerata is the treasurer of the women's society Sweet Harmony.
Sweet Harmony is chaired by the pastor's wife Masechaba Moletsane. Other members include local shebeen queen, Hazel Dubeand Ayanda Twala - a township tourism operator and Lerata's best friend.
There's also sweet, naïve (and rather clueless) Pinkie Serobe.
Mojo belongs to Majakathata - a stokie that has fallen on hard times. Besides himself, there are only two other regular members so the stokie account has always looked rather depressed.
This doesn't stop Mojo and his friends from constantly thinking of new ways to find new members and make more money.
Budgets Naledi is the treasurer of this group. He thinks he knows everything there is to know about finances - but the stokie's books tell a different story.
Their funds aren't helped by the fact that Biza never pays his contributions. Biza is a character found in almost every stokie - the 'baaidjievanger'. He never has money or a job and constantly finds new and more inventive ways to get other people to buy him a drink.
This season, Pinkie gets a new P.A. Her name is Kuki and Pinkie feels the need to take the girl in hand, becoming her mentor and making Kuki her protégée. With a little guidance, one day Kuki may be half the woman Pinkie is.
But when Philane meets Kuki, it's love at first sight - and a horrifying prospect for the guys because Kuki feels the same way about him.
She has never met a man as endearingly sensitive as Philane. And when he cries, well, that just makes her want to cry too...
Will the guys put up with this, or will they contrive to break the new lovers apart – and thereby guarantee even more tears?
