Season 8
24 is an American action television series created by Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran and presented in real time, with each season depicting a 24-hour period in the life of Jack Bauer, who works with the United States government as it fights fictitious terrorist threats to the United States.
Broadcast by Fox in the United States and syndicated worldwide, the show aired from 6 November, 2001 to 24 May, 2010. There are 124 episodes (and a TV movie) in eight seasons.
24 originally premiered in South Africa on M-Net on Thursday 31 January 2002, at 19h00. It was moved to DStv's M-Net Action channel for the 7th season, as well as the preceding television movie 24: Redemption. The first season also aired on free-to-air channel e.tv.
The series premiered on TopTV's Fox Entertainment channel before the channel went live in South Africa (on 1 May, 2010). The first three seasons had already aired by the time the channel activated, so the series began in South Africa with Season 4, which premiered on Friday 9 July 2010, at 21h00. Seasons 1-3 were later broadcast in a late-night slot, airing daily, from 12 September, 2010.
When Fox Entertainment became FOX in 2013 the final season aired on the new channel, which was broadcast simultaneously on TopTV and DStv. See "Seasons" below for seasonal broadcast dates and times by channel.
Season 8 originally aired on M-Net Action from 6 October, 2010 to 16 March, 2011, on Wednesdays at 19h00. New episodes broadcast weekly.
Season 8 premiered on FOX with a double bill on Tuesday 2 July 2013, at 20h15. Thereafter new episodes broadcast weekly at 21h00, preceded by a repeat of the previous episode at 20h15. There are 24 episodes in the eighth and final season.
Season 8
Beginning at 16h00, Season 8 of 24 promises to combine the show's unique and trend-setting format with compelling new elements, including a new setting, new threats and new cast members.
Each episode will again cover one hour of real time as viewers follow Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) through another astonishing day.
Set in New York City, Day Eight unfolds amidst the shadows of the Statue of Liberty and the United Nations as President Allison Taylor (Cherry Jones), alongside new chief of staff Rob Weiss (Chris Diamantopoulos), negotiates international security with Omar Hassan (Anil Kapoor), a determined Middle Eastern leader visiting the U.S. on a peacemaking mission.
As the new day begins, an upgraded CTU operates under the command of M.B.A.-schooled, razor-sharp head honcho Brian Hastings (Mykelti Williamson), who supervises quirky Chloe O'Brian (Mary Lynn Rajskub), expert data analyst Dana Walsh (Katee Sackhoff) and systems analyst Arlo Glass (John Boyd).
Cole Ortiz (Freddie Prinze Jr.), an ex-Marine who wants to follow in Bauer's footsteps, leads field operations while Agent Renee Walker (Annie Wersching) returns with an agenda of her own.
Created by Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran, 24 is a production of 20th Century Fox Television and Imagine Television in association with Teakwood Lane Productions.
Howard Gordon, Evan Katz, David Fury, Manny Coto, Brannon Braga, Brad Turner, Alex Gansa, Kiefer Sutherland and Brian Grazer are executive producers, while Chip Johannessen and Patrick Harbinson serve as co-executive producers.
Brad Turner directed the season premiere episode.
