Dinge van 'n Kind

Drama series based on the novel Die Dinge van 'n Kind by Marita van der Vyver which revolves around the trials and tribulations of Mart Vermaak.

The disillusionment of her coming-of-age years takes place against the political upheavals of the late 1970s, but an older Mart find herself in a different kind of predicament.

In the novel Die Dinge van 'n Kind readers get to know Mart both as a teenager and as an expat in her thirties, living in London.

The TV series, however, also shows Mart as an older woman who returned to South Africa permanently.

In the series, Mart is portrayed by three different actors in various stages of her life: Melissa Myburgh, Cintaine Schutte and Susanne Beyers.

Melissa Myburgh is young Mart, Cintaine Schutte is Mart in the 1990s and Susanne Beyers is present day Mart.

In the scenes set in the 1970s, Mienke Ehlers plays Mart's friend Dalena and Augusta Zietsman is their other friend, Suna.

Jana Kruger and André Weideman are Mart's parents, Marlene and Karel; and her siblings are played by Andahr Cotton (Simon), Méla Swanepoel (Liefie) and Wesley Smit (Neil).

Other actors in the scenes from the 1970s are Ben Albertyn as Pierre and Deànré Reiners as Hein, as well as Stian Bam, Amalia Uys, Lizz Meiring, Martelize Kolver and Sandra Vaughn.

In the 1990s scenes, Wilhelm van der Walt portrays the role of the older Simon.

Ludwig Binge, Kim Syster, André Roothman, Zenobia Kloppers and Quanita Adams all appear in the present day scenes.

The themes that run through the book and stage adaptations are also the backbone of the TV series.

Sterlopers 2

Channel: SABC2
TX Time: 19h30
Genre: Drama, Musical, Afrikaans

Sterlopers 2

Musical youth drama television series created and written by Deon Opperman which follows the fortunes of a group of young people who are all trying to make it in the entertainment industry, as viewers get an inside view into the secrets that are to be found behind the scenes of success.

The series exposes the exciting merging of two sides of the South African entertainment industry - the glittering highways and the shadowy alleys - on the road to fame.

Themes of disillusionment, betrayal, passion and scandal, accompanied by the roller coaster-ride of desiring success, depict the storyline.

True to Deon Opperman's writing style, this series explores the ambitions, complex relationships and search for identity which each of the dynamic characters face in their own separate segment of the industry.

Sterlopers is classified as a youth drama.

Not only does this genre allow for the introduction of new, fresh talent, but it also offers established artists an opportunity to show their talent on a brand new platform, as the series also includes the performance of popular Afrikaans songs.

In the Season 2 premiere: Jacques and Isabel formulate a plan for their future.

Also, Lesley convinces Emma to act against her better judgment and Ingrid gets unexpected news.

Their paths end up in the real world with their struggles starting all over where they find real love, as well as in all aspects of life; both good and bad.

The destructive and cold demeanour of Çelebi, a wealthy, charismatic and privileged man who seems to be an exemplary human being, can be felt on the back of their necks...

The South African voice cast includes Karli Heine, Hannah Borthwick, Celeste Loots, Conradie van Heerden, Jacques Theron, Marvin-Lee Beukes, Terence Makapan, Nicola Koen, Eben Bester, Niël Tait, Daniel Snyman, Electra Hartman and Geon Nel.
