Season 1
On the surface, Harmony looks like a picturesque New England fishing town. Beneath its sleep exterior lies a web of deceit, sex, violence and dark magic. Harmony is no ordinary town and Passions is no ordinary soap.
Part soap, part parody of a soap, Passions follows the lives of several very different families as they deal with the secrets and lies that threaten to tear their lives apart. On top of this, a supernatural menace looms over them ominously.
There are the wealthy and power-hungry Cranes, reviled by the townspeople for their ruthlessness and arrogance. Ruthless patriarch Alistair watches all through his extensive network of closed circuit cameras. He and his lecherous son, Julian, have covered up a murderous secret.
The Lopez-Fitzgeralds are humble folk who struggle to make ends meet ever since the father, Martin, disappeared. The mother, Pilar, must deal with her two sons, headstrong, Luis, and pretty boy, Miguel, and her lovesick daughter, Theresa, who is convinced Fate will bring her the man she loves.
The Russells are a prominent black family who seem to be the perfect family. Few know of the sordid secret Dr Eve Russell hides which would drive her husband, TC, to murder if he were to learn it. Their daughter Whitney may have found love but this love is tainted by an incestuous possibility.
The Bennetts are a middle class family who have to deal with such problems as paying the bills, sibling rivalry and portals to hell in their closet. Parents Sam and Grace are clueless to the activities of their sneaky daughter, Kay, who has sold her soul to win the heart of the boy she loves. Grace has taken in her orphaned niece, Charity, who is plagued by premonitions of death and doom.
Giving secrets a helping hand in coming out is Tabitha the witch, helped by her doll, Timmy. She is forever cooking up schemes to spread evil and mayhem. From poisoned petit fours to sinking prom boats, if there is disaster and death you can bet that Tabitha has something to do with it.
Featuring melodramatic acting, outrageous situations, atrocious special effects, and many funny costumes and fantasy sequences, Passions is high camp at its best. Its tongue-in-cheek approach and purposeful silliness make it unique among soaps.
