Season 1
Niggies (Nieces) is a South African, Afrikaans-language television miniseries based on true events which tells the story of two 12-year-old cousins who were kidnapped and murdered in 1965 in the sleepy town of Odendaalsrus in the Free State.
Issie's brother, André, swears to do everything in his power to bring the culprit to book, but it would take him almost 20 years.
Niggies begins with the double abduction and murder of Issie Fourie and Petro Nel in Odendaalsrus in 1965, but the series stretches across the 1960s and 1980s, with South Africa still in the steely grip of Apartheid.
The action takes place in Odendaalsrus, Allanridge and Kroonstad in the north-eastern Free State.
Government censorship kept the white minority in the dark about the real turmoil of the time, making events like the Fourie-Nel murder even more of a seismic shock in a conservative part of a conservative country.
Beer Adriaanse plays the role of the older André and newcomer Janru Steenkamp plays young André.
Carel Nel is Captain At van Wyk, who leads the investigation.
Tinarie van Wyk Loots and Jacques Bessenger play Issie's (Lané Vertue) parents, Marie and Dries Fourie.
Neels Clasen and Erica Wessels are the parents of Petro (Izebella Louw), Henning and Ousus.
Petro's older sister, Henda, is played as a 17-year-old by Anja Taljaard and as a 35-year-old by Cintaine Schutte.
Albert Pretorius and Roeline Daneel star as Gustaff and Maks Fouché – close relatives of the victims.
Other actors include Jana Kruger, Liam Bosman, Wessel Pretorius, Daneel van der Walt, Stian Bam, Ludwig Binge, Mbulelo Grootboom, Neels van Jaarsveld, Melissa Myburgh, Deon Lotz and Michele Burgers.
Niggies is produced by Wolflight Films, with Roelof Storm as executive producer.
Saartjie Botha and Philip Rademeyer wrote the screenplay and the director is Jaco Bouwer.
