Season 3
Black Tax is a sitcom entrenched in the culture of black tax.
If you think you're just earning your way in this world, think again - because it's payback since the first paycheque.
The show follows a black professional, Thuli (Jo-anne Reyneke), who grapples with the unsaid aspect of her community that affects most middle-class African people.
Thuli has to deal with the unspoken law of paying back to the family and extended family.
The first season saw Thuli being confronted with the reality of black tax and Season 2 saw her trying to rise above it by upskilling herself as a single mom trying to forge her way in the professional world.
Season 3 is all about embracing it – and, for Thuli's militant daughter Sihle (Mamodibe Ramodibe), having to dip her toes into the chaos of it all to help share the financial burden of supporting a household with her mother.
This season sees Thuli taking on a side hustle that becomes all-consuming, forcing her to make the decision to leave the safety of her real estate job and try to make it on her own as an entrepreneur.
But the prospect of financial freedom comes at a cost, as it puts strain on her family life as well as her newfound relationship with Nkanyiso (Motlatsi Mafatshe).
But Black Tax is about far more than just trying to make ends meet.
It's about family, love and community support, expressing gratitude, solidifying family bonds, joy and the lighter side of life as we navigate loadshedding, petrol increases and interest rate hikes.
This season, Thuli is going to experience it all.
From trying to get the kids to stand on their own feet to having to house her delinquent brother, start a business, parent her parents, keep her man happy, and save a stokvel – this is all just the tip of the iceberg.
Black Tax sees the return of most cast members, including Thuli's head-in-the-clouds brother Menzi (Sne Dladla), her parents Sizwe and Martha and her rural-raised nephew Zakhele (Bahle Mashinini) – plus cameo appearances by Daniel Janks as Thuli's "one percenter" boss James, Jason Goliath as her "frenemy" work colleague Antonio, and Owen Sejake as Nkanyiso's father Bra Hugo.
We will also see the introduction of new character Nomasonto, played by Thembsie Matu.
In the Season 3 premiere, "Career Aspirations": Thuli sets her sights on an upper management position within one of James' companies.
However, her hopes are shattered when James chooses someone else.
Determined not to be discouraged, Thuli finds an unlikely ally in Nkanyiso, who encourages her to leverage James' resources to build her own empire.
Meanwhile, the family comes together to throw a surprise graduation party for Thuli, leading to unexpected outcomes.
Black Tax was created by Meren Reddy, Joshua Rous and Luke Rous and is a co-production between Rous House, Showmax and BET Africa, with funding from The Department of Trade and Industry and the Gauteng Film Commission.
