Season 3
This drama series is set in Swartwater, a fictitious town set in the Overberg.
It's a space where interactions between different classes, races and cultures take place quite naturally.
The small town becomes a microcosm of South Africa, a metaphor for our country at large; its mix of people of different backgrounds and cultures; its problems of corruption, hardship and forging new identities in an uncertain world.
The series follows the lives of Karen and Francois, who move to Swartwater after a guilt-stricken Francois accidentally shoots and kills his son.
Season 3 explores the problem of global warming, when the town is gripped by drought and the inhabitants have limited access to drinking water.
In the Season 3 premiere: Swartwater has a water crisis.
Karen still swims every morning and has become a familiar figure at the Albertina Sisulu Hospital, where her husband Francois has been in a coma for the past nine months.
Meisie and Buks have been living with Portia and Gomo since the birth of their baby daughter Naledi.
It doesn't help matters when Meisie decides to run the estate agency from Gomo's house.
We meet Boeta Lester, the local garage owner, and establish his friendship with Kinta, who takes the water shortage very seriously - to the extent that she appoints herself as water monitor.
Due to the water shortage, businesses have been forced to close down and Cindy is considering leaving town to find work, much to Constable van Zyl's dismay.
We are also introduced to Jerome, a proper low life whose presence makes Lester nervous.
The series stars Antoinette Louw as Karen, Louw Venter as Francois, Wayne van Rooyen as Van Zyl, Nazli George as Dotty, Sekoati Tsubane as Gomo and Vuyelwa Mpela as Portia.
Swartwater is produced by Quizzical Pictures.
