Season 5

Nip/Tuck is an American television drama series created by Ryan Murphy and produced by Hands Down Entertainment which reveals the lives of Dr. Sean McNamara and Dr. Christian Troy, two plastic surgeons, best friends and business partners who run McNamara/Troy, a South Beach plastic surgery practice (relocated to Los Angeles in Season 5).

The series aired in the USA on FX Networks from 22 July, 2003 to 3 March, 2010. There are 100 hour-long episodes in six seasons.

Nip/Tuck premiered in South Africa on M-Net on Tuesday 13 January 2004, at 21h30. It was moved to DStv's M-Net Series channel for the fifth season (although the fourth season also repeated on M-Net Series). The series later aired on SABC3.

See "Seasons" below for seasonal broadcast dates and times.

Season 5 premiered on M-Net Series on Wednesday 9 January, 2008. It went on hiatus after the 14th episode (on 9 April, 2008) in order to accommodate the year-long hiatus in the USA. There are 22 episodes in the fifth season.

Season 5 resumed on M-Net Series on Wednesday 6 May 2009, at 21h00, with Episode 15: "Robbie Chase". The season was interrupted by the live American Idol finale on 20 May and resumed the following week, on 27 May.

Season 5 premiered on SABC3 on Thursday 4 November 2010, at 22h15. New episodes broadcast from Mondays to Thursdays at the same time. There are 22 episodes in the fifth season.

Season 5

Dr. Sean McNamara (series star Dylan Walsh) and Dr. Christian Troy (series star Julian McMahon), two plastic surgeons, close friends and business partners who own an overwhelmingly successful plastic surgery practice, attempt to bring inner peace and visceral contentment to their patients through external cosmetic procedures.

Although their clients aspire to cover up their pain, it is the surgeons who truly wear the masks of anguish and unhappiness, sadness and disillusionment.

For more than two decades, they have shared a love for the same woman, Julia McNamara (series star Joely Richardson), who despite being married to Sean, has loved both men.

And at midlife, the doctors question the prosperity that has brought them so much - and has offered so little.

Following his divorce from Julia, who is now living in New York with her two younger children, Sean sold his half of McNamara/Troy and departed Miami for Los Angeles.

Having ended his engagement, Christian soon followed, thus relocating McNamara/Troy to the West Coast. Dr. Liz Cruz (series star Roma Maffia) also joins the new McNamara/Troy for a fresh start, as she recovers physically and emotionally from past loves.

And Matt McNamara (series star John Hensley) and Kimber Henry (series star Kelly Carlson) have gotten married and now have a baby daughter.

In a city where they are professionally unknown, and where residents yearn for fame, Sean and Christian struggle for success.

In the fifth season premiere, Sean and Christian settle into their new plastic surgery practice in Beverly Hills and struggle to build it from the ground up.

New opportunities arise after they meet a slick Hollywood publicist who offers to help raise their reputation through the media rather than via their surgical abilities.

Recurring guest star Oliver Platt appears as Freddy Prune, recurring guest star Bradley Cooper appears as Aidan Stone, guest star Craig Bierko appears as Bob Easton, guest star Daphne Zuniga appears as Carly Summers, recurring guest star Jennifer Coolidge appears as Candy Richards, recurring guest star Paula Marshall appears as Kate Tinsley, guest star Tia Carrere appears as Mistress Dark Pain and recurring guest star Lauren Hutton appears as Fiona McNeil.
