Season 4
Erfsondes is about the sins of the past and how it comes back to haunt us in the present. It's about families and the lies and deceit within these structures.
Once more the sins of the past will come back to haunt our characters as old battles are fought anew, surprising alliances are forged and some unexpected battle lines are drawn.
Kate (Jana Strydom) and Chris Spencer's (Emmanuel Castis) marriage was tested in Season 2 when Kate could not make amends with Chris's decision to have Sam (Catriona Andrew) pull her into a world of lies and deceit, when she was forced to lie about accidentally shooting Chris.
Chris took the bullet to save his sister, Sam, and Kate realised that Sam was the one who swapped Katie and Rosie at birth.
Season 2 ended with the Magistrate handing little Rosie (Kaylin van der Merwe) over to her biological father, Eugene Fouche (Ruan Burger) when Kate admitted under oath that her marriage was failing.
Kate now has to face the far-reaching effects this truth has on her family, as she watches how losing Rosie rips them apart.
We also saw Vuyo (Bongo Mbutuma) become a man by going back to his father's village in Lusikisiki for his Abakwetha (initiation into manhood) and asking his cop girlfriend Thandeka (Talitha Ndima) for her hand in marriage.
Thandeka and Vuyo's relationship is further tested when Vuyo's childhood friend, Sepecia Motaung (Rantabeng Makapan) challenges that Vuyo needs to stand up against his bossy girlfriend. Will Vuyo and Thandeka's love survive all these setbacks?
Thandeka also faces her biggest case ever. When a serial killer is identified, she goes all out to catch the man she names The Cleaner.
Sam (Catriona Andrew) elopes with Renier (Jacques Bessenger). When Lucille (Sandra Prinsloo) realises that her daughter robbed her of a wedding ceremony she vows to throw the wedding of the year. Later Lucille discovers a secret about Sam that could change their relationship forever.
Kate's biological mother, Ansie van Tonder (Susan Beyers), also features prominently in this season when she too has to face the sins of her past. In a storyline about cancer, Ansie and Kate have to face the consequences of Ansie's decision to put Kate up for adoption.
Kate's "foster mother" Ma Rose (Denise Newman) and Ansie seem trapped in a tug of war for Kate's affection, but she refuses to be drawn into their battles. Having grown up in an orphanage Kate has never learnt to stand up for herself and fight back. This time she will be up against her biggest enemy ever. Her husband.
The series climaxes tragically when all the different storylines end up at Eugene Fouche's house. The evening derails into a Walpurgis Night of unsuspected events.
Erfsondes is produced by Imani Media with Henriëtta Gryffenberg as the associate producer and writer. The series is directed by Bobby Heaney.
