Season 5
e.tv's local drama series, eKasi: Our Stories, was launched in 2009 with five episodes produced by one production company and has grown tremendously; there are now seven production companies filming 52 dramas across four provinces.
This year, dramas were produced in various provinces across the country. Stories from as far as Limpopo, Western Cape and Kwa-Zulu Natal are included in Season 5.
More developments include the introduction of three new production houses, the addition of three more provinces, the production of 30 more dramas, as well as filming with HD cameras.
Joining the production team for the first time are Di Prente, producers of Late Nite News with Loyiso Gola. They add a comic flavour to the dramas.
Asi-B, a Limpopo-based production company, brings gritty stories from Limpopo while Bubblegum, a Western Cape-based production company, delivers real stories from in and around Cape Town.
This is part of an ongoing initiative to train and develop talent in the various disciplines of the South African television industry. The aim is to encourage ordinary South Africans to tell their stories in the most authentic way while ensuring on-going skills development in different parts of South Africa.
e.tv continues to provide training and workshops to the writers, producers and crew in order to ensure that the eKasi: Our Stories concept remains a sustainable development initiative.
Mentors are also provided for scriptwriters and scores of new actors continue to develop their acting careers through eKasi: Our Stories.
